Most AI calling agents in India cost somewhere between ₹2 and ₹12 per minute of conversation in 2026. Where you land in that range depends on how you buy (a ready-made platform, a global developer platform, or a custom build), how many minutes you use, and which costs the vendor has quietly left out of the headline rate.
This guide breaks down what you actually pay for, what published prices look like right now, and how to estimate your own monthly bill before you talk to anyone.
What you are paying for in every minute
An AI voice agent is really five services working together on every call. Some vendors bundle them into one price, others bill each separately:
- Telephony: the phone line itself, the number, and the per-minute carrier charge.
- Speech-to-text: turning the caller's voice into text the AI can read.
- The language model: the "brain" that decides what to say next, such as GPT or Claude.
- Text-to-speech: turning the reply back into a natural voice.
- The platform: the software that runs the conversation, handles interruptions, and logs everything to your CRM.
When one vendor quotes ₹3 a minute and another quotes ₹9, the first question to ask is which of these five are included.
Typical per-minute prices in India (2026)
Caller Digital's 2026 breakdown of the Indian market groups prices into five bands (source):
- Budget platforms: ₹1.50 to ₹3.50 per minute
- Mid-market Indian platforms: ₹4 to ₹7 per minute
- Enterprise, India-first platforms: ₹7 to ₹12 per minute
- Global platforms: ₹10 to ₹18 per minute
- Contact-centre software with an AI add-on: ₹8 to ₹14 per minute
Volume matters a lot. The same source puts enterprise pricing at roughly ₹6 to ₹9 per minute at 1 lakh minutes a month, dropping to ₹4.50 to ₹7 at 10 lakh minutes.
A few vendors publish their rates openly. As of September 2026, MyOperator's comparison lists Bolti at ₹6 per minute, Tabbly at $0.08 per minute (about ₹6.70), Vyora AI from ₹799 a month for a credit-based plan, and HuskyVoice from ₹39,990 a year (source). Many of the larger players, including Gnani, Yellow.ai and SquadStack, only quote on request.
Global developer platforms: cheap headline, extra bills
If you've looked at Vapi, Retell or Bland, their headline rates look very low. Read the fine print. Stackbinary's 2026 comparison shows what each one covers (source):
- Vapi: $0.05 per minute for orchestration and hosting only. Speech, the language model, voice and phone line are all billed on top.
- Retell: $0.055 per minute for voice infrastructure, plus the language model (for example $0.045 per minute for GPT-4.1) and telephony.
- Bland: $0.14 per minute on its starter plan, with speech, model, voice and an inbound number included.
These platforms are built for developers. You still need someone to design the conversation, connect it to your CRM and calendar, handle Indian phone numbers, and keep it working. Their US telephony rates also don't apply to Indian numbers.
The costs that don't appear in the per-minute price
Indian telephony
If the vendor doesn't include the phone line, expect roughly ₹0.45 to ₹0.75 per minute for outbound calls to mobiles, ₹0.25 to ₹0.45 for normal inbound calls, and ₹1.20 to ₹2.50 per minute if callers reach you on an 1800 toll-free number. Each phone number (DID) typically rents for ₹250 to ₹1,500 a month (source).
Compliance
Outbound commercial calling in India runs through the TRAI framework: DLT registration, promotional calls on the 140 number series, and service or transactional calls on the 1600 series for sectors like banking and insurance. In September 2026 TRAI was finalising amendments that bring automated and AI calls into the framework explicitly, requiring businesses to declare this traffic to their telecom operator; undeclared automated traffic could be treated as spam (Business Standard). DLT compliance itself is commonly estimated at ₹5,000 to ₹25,000 a year. If you only answer inbound calls, most of this doesn't apply to you.
Setup, minimums and overage
Onboarding fees, minimum monthly commitments and higher overage rates are where quotes quietly grow. Always ask for the price at your expected volume and at double that volume.
A worked example: what would it cost you?
Say a real-estate firm wants an AI agent to call back every new enquiry and answer inbound calls after hours:
- 150 calls a day, averaging 3 minutes each
- 26 working days a month
- That's 150 × 3 × 26 = 11,700 minutes a month
At a mid-market all-in rate of ₹5 to ₹7 per minute, the running cost is about ₹58,500 to ₹82,000 a month. Add a one-time setup (designing the conversation, CRM and calendar integration, testing) and a DID number or two. Compare that total with what you currently spend on the people and hours handling those calls, and with the leads you lose because nobody picked up at 8 pm.
If your volume is lower, say 30 calls a day, the same maths gives about 2,300 minutes and ₹11,500 to ₹16,000 a month. At that size, a flat monthly plan may work out cheaper than per-minute pricing.
How to keep the bill down
- Keep calls short and focused. An agent that qualifies and books in 90 seconds costs half as much as one that chats for three minutes.
- Hand off early. Let the agent handle the repetitive part and transfer serious buyers to a person.
- Use WhatsApp for follow-ups. A utility message costs a fraction of a rupee, far less than a second call.
- Match the model to the job. Not every call needs the most expensive language model.
- Test before you commit. Run a pilot on a few hundred real calls and measure cost per qualified lead, not just cost per minute.
Questions to ask any vendor
- Which of telephony, speech-to-text, language model, voice and platform does the per-minute price include?
- How well does it handle Hindi, Hinglish and switching language mid-call?
- Is there a setup fee, a monthly minimum, or a different rate above my plan?
- Who handles DLT and TRAI requirements for outbound calls?
- Does it write call details into my CRM automatically, and which CRMs are supported?
